Product, R&D, delivery and support, with P&L ownership.

Leadership Decisions

Define the market proposition and allocate resources across client delivery, product development and support.

Outcomes

Department established and fully operational within 3 months.

01 / LEADERSHIP IN PRACTICE

Building and leading a digital insurance business

The Challenge

Create a digital offering and establish a business bringing together product, R&D, delivery and support, with accountability for the P&L and client commitments.

Leadership Decisions

Position the digital customer journeys as a standalone offering that could integrate with other core systems, rather than depend on the existing platform. Allocate teams and budgets across client commitments, the product roadmap and support. Three project directors led their respective portfolios within an organisation of approximately 400 people, serving around 15 client accounts.

The Outcome

The department was established and fully operational within 3 months. Several modules were brought to market; others remained at demonstration stage.

02 / LEADERSHIP IN PRACTICE

Rebuilding a common product foundation

The Challenge

Rebuild a standard version of a software platform that had diverged into multiple client-specific branches, while maintaining commitments to ongoing projects.

Leadership Decisions

Reset product priorities and align the roadmap with delivery. Work with the legal function to anticipate regulatory requirements alongside technical deadlines.

The Outcome

The standard version went live. A technical upgrade and a regulatory change had both been initiated before the relevant client projects requested them.

3 months

Department established and fully operational.
